When Adela and her elderly companion Mrs Moore arrive in the Indian town of Chandrapore, they quickly feel trapped by its insular and prejudiced community. determined to explore the "real India" they seek the guidance of the charming & mercurial Dr Aziz, a cultivated Indian Muslim. But a mysetrious incident occurs while they are exploring the Malabar caves with Aziz, and the well repected doctor soon find himself at the centre of a scandal that rouses passions among both the British and their Indian subjects.

j'ai adoré, un pur bijoux. Magnifiquement bien écrit. L'analyse du fossé qui separe les occidentaux et orientaux est parfaite, ne se limite pas uniquement aux indiens et aux britanniques, elle prends en compte les comportements, les pensées...un tout et elle toujours d'actualité.
